  • The occurrence of chronic renal failure may cause of cat increased water intake as there will be an increased level of urination of your cat. Your cat would feel thirsty and would like to drink water more often than usual. Under such circumstances take your cat to a vet clinic for treatment immediately.
  • Chronic renal failure or CRF brings about a complete change in the cat’s appetite and craving for water. Apart from increased water intake the cat would suffer from a decrease in appetite, increased urination along finicky behavior. You would rather be confused about what your cat exactly wants. Though there would be a significant increase in the rate of urination the tool of the cat would be rather dry and hard in nature.

  • Dehydration might often be the consequence of the severe form of chronic renal failure. If the water is not taken in abundance, dehydration may even cause poor quality of the fur. The face of the cat might seem to have a dry look and the temperature of the body can be felt to be quite low than usual. If felt with hand the kidneys of the pet would be quite larger than their normal size.
  • The progressive form of chronic renal failure is known as chronic renal insufficiency or CRI. In the case of chronic renal insufficiency, the kidney gets heavily deteriorated. The symptoms of the disease come up after almost 2 months to 1 year of the development of the disease. This kidney disorder can not be easily cured and its side effects often form the regular health care problems for the cat until its death.
  • In case of the condition of chronic tubulointerstitial nephritis, the kidney of the pet would appear to be very small and scarred. This disease is usually the last stage of any kidney disorder. The disease is caused when the nephrons, the principal unit of kidney carrying out basic functions get damaged and are replaced with fibrous tissues.
  • The occurrence of Glomerulonephritis may also lead to increased water intake. The disorder occurs when the glomeruli which helps to filter urine from blood gets damaged.

  • The incidence of bacterial infection in kidneys known as the Pyelonephritis may also lead to an increased rate of water intake of your pet.
  • Amyloidosis is regarded as a generic disease among Abyssinian cats as it is more common in them. Here, the insoluble protein fibers get deposited in various parts of the body leading to kidney failure or the incidence of chronic renal failure.

The most common method of detecting renal problems is urinalysis and blood tests.
